Leon shuddered. He was rising towards the surface. He could feel the water pressuring easing on his body. The Tentacruel still held true to its iron grip as it clung to Leon tightly. Leon could feel his assailant struggling with something. The Tentacruel was jerking rather violently as its free tentacles thrashed about through the water. Forcing open his eyes, Leon discovered that the water was turning a shade of crimson. He tasted a copper tint within its mixture and knew that it was blood. Whether it was his, he could not tell. Overcome by exhaustion, his eyes closed again.

It was cold. Very cold. It seemed that his body even lack the strength required to shiver. Leon had little feeling in his body at that moment and began to wonder if he was even still attached to it. The Tentacruel seemed to have released its grip from around his body as he continued to float towards the surface. The coppery taste of the water seemed to have grown stronger. It was then that a moment of feeling returned to Leon's body.

Rather than the iron-like grip of a dozen tentacles, Leon felt himself in the grip of something more gentle. He took a sudden liking to this new contact. Before losing all feeling and comprehension of his surroundings once more, a voice came to him. It was warm, comforting. "You'll be 'right, mate."

"Hey! Oi! C'mon, mate! Wake up!"  The words struck Leon like thunderclaps, jolting him awake from his unconsciousness. The words were followed as a pair of small hands pressed down on his chest. "C'mon. Up ya get. You're not hurt."

From his lying down position, Leon shot up. With the feeling of water clogging his lungs he began to cough until he forced it all up and out of his mouth. He felt a pair of arms hold him as one firmly thumped his back, helping him cough up the water his lungs had taken in.

Leon let his exhausted body rest in the stranger's arms. His lungs laboured heavily to draw in air. To Leon, it could have never tasted any sweeter; it was something he thought he would never breathe in again. He was cold; freezing in fact. His body trembled and shivered as his wet fur burdened him. He held the stranger close, enjoying whatever warmth its body could offer.

"You got some guts in ya, pal," commented the stranger. It was a masculine voice with a hint of rusticity to its tone. "It's not everyday that someone tries to pick a fight with big Bermuda  He chuckled for a moment. "Hell, it's not everyday someone even survives a round with Bermuda" With his laboured breathing beginning to ease, Leon opened his eyes and stared up at his apparent rescuer.

As his vision began to clear, his eyes were met by the face of a rugged Totodile. In the dim yellow light of the dawning sun, Leon could make out most of his distinct features. A black eye patch adorned the right side of the Totodile's head, concealing a maimed eye. However, it was the other eye that caught Leon's attention.

Beaming proudly, an emerald green eye stared back at Leon. Almost as though a spell had been cast, Leon felt the cold in him vanish when he gazed into it. "V-vagus?" he whispered. He recognised the Totodile. It was the same one he had looked upon fondly during the performance of his magic show. The same one that was even kind enough to buy him drink at the cafe one day and stay for a chat.

"Yea, it's me." The Totodile smiled as he looked upon Leon. "Are you alright, Leon" he asked.

Leon still maintained a hold around the Totodile. He was warm now; he no longer needed to be close to him. Still, Leon could not bring himself to move away from the Totodile. His warm and welcoming smile kept his close. "Y-yes," shuttered Leon. "I-I'm fine, thank you."

Vagus exhaled a short breath with a sense of relief. "That's good." For a moment, Leon thought that the Totodile would release him, but it seemed that his thoughts were wrong. Instead the Totodile maintained his caring hold of the Riolu and looked away shyly.

Leon thought it was best to start a conversation to relieve the moment of its awkwardness. "I-it's been a while, Vagus." In truth, it had only been a few weeks. Even so, Leon had felt a longing to be in Vagus' presence again.
The Totodile responded with a nervous chuckle. His lone eye flicked back to meet Leon's gaze once more. "I...guess it has been." Leon could have sworn that he felt Vagus' arms tighten around him when he spoke those words. "Life's been...keeping me kinda busy..."

The silence fell once again, leaving Leon without the slightest clue on what to say next. He found himself overcome by an urge to simply stay in Vagus' arms and gaze up into his eye. "Erm…cool, I guess." For a reason that defied his logic, he was beginning to feel slightly awkward; as though this whole moment was becoming silly.

Vagus also seemed to be somewhat agitated. He pulled away his arms. "Ah…hehe. The hug is nice, Leon, but just a 'thank you' will do."

"O-oh…ah...y-yes of course…" Almost by reflex, Leon quickly withdrew his paws from around Vagus, and wrapped them around his chest. "T-thank you, Vagus," he chuckled shyly. His eyes fell away from the Totodile's gaze.

With a grunt, Vagus rose to his feet and spent a moment to take in his  surroundings  before speaking. "Well, I guess we should be heading off." He suddenly seemed eager to leave.

It was at that moment that Leon noticed something. A small pool of crimson liquid had gathered by his foot-paws. Unable to find or feel any injury on himself, his eyes wandered back to Vagus who had risen to his feet. A deep and bloody gash was visible across Vagus' side.
